Asemoon collects no personal data. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics. Your location, compass and camera are used only on your device.
01Who we are
Asemoon is made by Ali Bahari Malayeri in Switzerland under the name Albaloo. He is responsible for the app and for this policy (“we” below). This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revDSG) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact details are at the end.
02What we collect
Nothing. There is no account and no user profile. The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code, from us or from other companies. We cannot see who uses the app, where they are or what they look at. Nothing you do in the app is measured, profiled or sold.
Some things are saved on your device so the app works offline and remembers your choices: your settings, the place you chose, and sky data such as star catalogues and satellite orbits. They never leave your device. Deleting the app, or clearing the site’s data in your browser, removes them.
03Location, compass and camera
These are used only on your device and only while you use the app. Asemoon never sends them to us or to anyone else.
- Location. Asemoon needs your approximate position to show the sky as it looks where you are. You can pick a city from the list instead, or let the app read your location once.
- Compass and motion. In motion mode, the compass, gyroscope and accelerometer make the sky follow your phone. The readings are not recorded.
- Camera. The optional camera view shows the live image behind the sky. It is only shown on your screen. It is never saved, uploaded or analysed.
The iPhone, iPad and Android apps read your position with Ionic’s open source location libraries. On iPhone and iPad these use Apple’s Location Services. On Android they use Google Play services, which comes with most Android phones and handles location under Google’s privacy policy and your phone’s location settings. Asemoon itself sends your position nowhere.
If you share an object from its info card, the link names only that object (for example Mars), never your location. Nothing is shared unless you tap Share.
04Internet use
Asemoon works offline, but it uses the internet in two cases:
- Loading the app. The website and the web app are hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web server, it briefly processes your IP address and browser type to deliver the files and to stop abuse. The iPhone, iPad and Android apps already contain their files.
- Satellite positions. To show the International Space Station and other satellites, the app downloads public orbit data from CelesTrak (celestrak.org), or from wheretheiss.at as a backup. These requests contain no personal data, but those servers see your IP address, as with any internet connection.
Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) processes this technical data for us only to deliver and protect the service. It uses data centres around the world and keeps the data only briefly, as its privacy policy describes. Cloudflare is certified under the Swiss-U.S. and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks. CelesTrak and wheretheiss.at are independent public services in the USA. We cannot see what they log, and their own policies apply. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in a working and secure app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
05App stores
If you install Asemoon from the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handle downloads and updates under their own privacy policies. If you allowed sharing analytics with app developers in your device settings, they may give us anonymous totals, such as the number of installs or crashes. We cannot identify you from them.
06Children
Asemoon is for all ages. It collects no personal data, so it collects none from children either.
07Your rights
Under the revDSG and, where it applies, the GDPR, you can ask what personal data we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted. You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Switzerland, that is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). Asemoon holds no personal data about you, so there is usually nothing to see or delete, but you are welcome to ask.
08Changes
If the app changes how it handles data, we will update this page before the change and change the date at the top. If optional paid extras (Asemoon Pro) arrive, Apple or Google will handle all payments. We will not receive your name or payment details, and this page will say what changes before then.
